Urad dal Porridge / UlundhanKanji

One of the village treatment for cold is Urad dal Porridge/ UlundhanKanji. There is lot to say about the benefits of this recipes. So lets move to make recipe.


Ingredients:

Urad dal - 1 cup
Rice - ½ cup
Fenugreek seeds - 1 tbsp
Garlic pods - 15 to 20
Palm jaggery or sugar cane jaggery - 75 g
pinch of salt
Grated coconut - 3 tsp

Steps:

Combine rice, urad dal, fenugreek seeds and wash completely.
Now add washed mix and peeled garlic pods into a vessel which goes inside pressure cooker pan and add 3 cups of water. We used inner vessel in order to avoid burn because urad dal will be little sticky once cooked.
Pressure cook for 8 whistles and let allow to pressure released automatically.
In Parallel melt the jaggery in to other pan.
Now transfer this cooked mix into actual pressure cooker pan and mash it while it is hot.
Add the melted jaggery and pinch of salt into the mashed porridge and stir it.
Add grated coconut and mix it again.
Now Hot Ulundhankanji is ready to serve. It will be best to have little hot to cure cold. Have this porridge in the night time and you will be completely relieved in the next day morning.
